Memories for Miriam, Alice, Theo, Delia, Tessa
and anyone else who would like to be here
Last year I posted photos of many Halloween costumes from past years. This year, I haven't thought much about the holiday. I haven't even bought any candy yet. But here are some kinds of candy I am thinking about!
Today the members of the Pioneer High School bands were having a free car wash. Their friends and family promised them some number of dollars for each car they washed. People whose cars were washed could also give them money if they wanted to, so I gave them some money after they washed my car. This is a fund-raiser for big kids to do. Big kids also do the same things as Miriam, Alice, and Theo: they sell greeting cards and gift wrap, have walk-a-thons, and so on.
Evelyn was in the Pioneer High School band when she was in high school. She helped with some of their fund raisers, like selling hot dogs at Michigan football games. I can't remember if she washed cars. Bands always need money for taking trips and for buying new uniforms. That's why they hold fund raisers.
This morning we flew from the Detroit Airport to Virginia. While we were waiting, Lenny was taking pictures with his new camera. The pilot of our plane was very interested in the camera, because he wants to take photos out of the cockpit window. So he took our picture in front of the Northwest sign.
The pilot would have liked to take our camera with him in the cockpit, and take some pictures when we were landing near Washington, DC. (Passengers are not allowed in the cockpit, so he couldn't invite us in, only our camera.) Pictures of the Washington Monument from the plane would be very nice. Unfortunately, when he checked the weather, the pilot found out that there were low clouds that didn't allow the plane to have a good view of Washington. So we have only the photo of us in the Detroit Airport.
Now we will spend the weekend visiting Alice, Miriam, Evelyn, and Tom. Lenny will keep trying out new things with his camera.
OUR RETURN: We enjoyed a beautiful take-off from National Airport, as the gentle pink sunset was lighting up the Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson monuments and the Capitol dome as we banked over the Potomac R. We could also pick out the White House, the National Cathedral, and a moment after that, we could see the weird mormon church that is visible from the beltway in Maryland. Very spectacular. Better than GoogleEarth.
